Inspiring You To Create Your Own Halloween Costumes

Halloween is almost here and I always think that as artists and illustrators we should be ahead of everyone else and be able to come up with some kick-ass homemade Halloween Costumes! Don't you agree? I've been searching the web for innovative, inventive and inspirational homemade costumes. Below are some of the ones I thought were fun and resourceful.


Here are some ideas of things you can use from your closet. Who doesn't have a scarf or umbrella stuffed in their wardrobe?! You can make it into the flying nanny costume, a.k.a. Mary Poppins. Or a red hankerchief and blue button down shirt can be rolled into a Rosie the Riveter costume. ModCloth has more ideas at this link. Here is a homemade owl mask using papier-mache, some paint and other old crafty items handy at the house. Pair it with a dark coat with a hood and you're a night owl! Learn more about how to create this whirly bird mask at this link.



If you really want to get creative, how about making a one-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater costume?! The inventer of this homemade costume used a big bowl for the eye and pieced together odds and ends from other Halloween decorations and costumes.
